String Words

One person starts out by saying any word. Then players take turns saying words that begin with the last letter of the previous word. For instance, if the first player says “giant,” then the second player says a word that starts with “t,” like “trash.” Then the next person has to say a word that starts with “h.” Continue indefinitely.

Distance Game

One person picks an object ahead in the distance. The other person quickly calls out a number that is their estimate of how many seconds until the car reaches the object. Then they count the number of seconds until they actually arrive. Or you can estimate distance and track it on the odometer. Take turns picking and guessing.

Blind Banker

Take about 20 coins (a mixture of pennies, nickel, dimes and quarters), and divide them up between two players. The number of coins doesn’t need to be the same, but the total value of the coins should be exactly the same. Blindfold both players or have them keep their eyes closed. Then have one player give the other player from 1 to 5 coins. The second player should figure out how much there is, and then give back the same amount of money, using a different combination of coins. For instance, if one person hands over a quarter and three nickels, the other player can hand back 4 dimes. No talking allowed. After several rounds, take off the blindfolds and count each person’s coins. If the game was played correctly, each person should still have the same amount of change.
